EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION AND /HEALTH
The impact of employees' well-being and health on their company is enormous. According to an Oxford University study, satisfied and happy employees deliver 13% better results.¹ Increased satisfaction reduces absenteeism by 41%, according to a Gallup study.² Other research has shown that turnover is significantly reduced when employees are happy and engaged.
As further data show, the relevance of health promotion has been reinforced by Corona:
According to a sickness absence analysis by the AOK, more than one in five days of absence in 2020 is due to problems of the musculoskeletal system.³ Furthermore, around 40% of all adults gained weight during the Corona crisis.⁴ The current DAK Psychoreport shows a new peak in days of absence due to mental illness in 2021 and shows an overall increase in days of absence of 41% over the last ten years.⁵ These results underline the significant influence of well-being on individual performance and thus also on the economic success of the company.
Workplace health management &
workplace health promotion
Workplace health management (WHM for short) and workplace health promotion are precisely the starting point. But what is occupational health management? Workplace health management is the umbrella term for employee protection, workplace health promotion (WHP) and workplace reintegration management. Workplace health promotion in turn includes targeted measures to promote the health (nutrition, exercise, mental health and addiction prevention) of employees and thus ultimately their satisfaction - both on and off the job.
A survey on employee satisfaction showed that besides pay, work-life balance and nice colleagues are the most important factors influencing job satisfaction.⁶ Another important aspect was employee benefits such as suitable sports facilities. As important cornerstones of the New Work concept, these approaches already seem familiar to us.
What does New Work have to do with corporate health management
?
The New Work approach aims, among other things, at improvements in the following subject areas:
- Work-life balance
- Health and mindfulness
- a cooperative sense of community among employees.
This clearly shows the interface between new work and occupational health management:
New Work needs a modern and rethought occupational health promotion. Employees who enjoy their work and can interact with each other "off-the-job" are more productive and stay with the company longer. Successful measures avoid stress and discomfort at work and promote mental health.
The providers of digital occupational health management solutions promise exactly that: healthier, more satisfied and motivated employees and a higher identification with "their" company.
